Babies

ooohhhh we got two sweeties!
The brown one is DARING! (Rhode Island Red)
The yellow one is very laid back. (Leghorn)
Dar and Alice would be my choices for names... we will see

Merit does not like to hold them and either does Oren. Willem and Hazel would sleep with them if they could. Hazel places them in doll beds and baskets. Will makes obstacle courses for them. It is so much fun! Chicks grow SO fast! So we will be soaking them up every second.

Remember how I had written that we were holding out for Ameraucanas? Well, we got to North 40, Will and Haze were out of their heads with excitement and the Ameraucanas didn't come in. :-( So, we got these two! And hopefully next week we will get an Ameraucana.

These days...

Pickin' rocks, working, enjoying nice days!

My baby chick posts and gardening posts are going to be WILD. I can't help myself! I think we are getting our chicks Thursday. 2 Americaunas on I am excited!

Imagination! YES! All four of our kids have been so imaginative and inquisitive.

I love herbs! I have a couple growing in pots and am excited to have more this spring/summer!

Yesterday I subbed in Willem's classroom, oh I loved every minute of it!

My brain and heart do this interesting thing in March - God allows my brain and heart to do this - a flood of memories hit me regarding my mom! She passed away on March 25. I think my brain and heart is guarded a bit other months. ? And in March it is different. Sometimes I think of things I have not thought of in five, maybe even ten years! These memories are a gift. More on that later...

A weekend of basketball and dreams of spring

I love watching basketball!
I love these boys' hustle and heart! Especially #7.

Tastes of spring are good for the soul.

Say a prayer for Natasha and Reese and family. God is working in them, through them...
They are enjoying San Diego. I was reminded today how important it is to pray.

Vance has worked and worked in our garden area.
Chicken poop has been tilled! Rocks have been picked, fence posts are secure.

Dust baths, chicken poop, spring fever, Oren Paul

We are working on fencing in the garden in an effort to keep deer and chickens out...

Peep's dust bath

Oren's dust bath

Darla remembered she had somewhere to be...

Oren's favorite things to pretend
1) that he is riding a motorcycle
2) playing restaurant
3) being Vance

Oren has been wearing the same shirt for two days. Hazel has pajama day at school today! That makes things easy! Along with a big Dr. Seuss celebration! Green eggs and ham this morning! With some of those eggs being from the Jansen farm!

We are getting chicks this weekend.
Oh my gosh, my mothering, nurturing instinct is overpowering at times! I cannot wait to hold those baby chicks! And I am aware of how FAST they grow! I thought babies and puppies grew fast. NOTHING grows faster than a chick.

I would get ten more but keeping up on the poop is really a task. I cannot believe how much they poop! All that winter chicken manure will be great for the garden. But any "new manure" will be too "hot"for the garden and storing it is not too fun. Wow, did I just mention a negative fact of raising chickens?? There are 30 positives.

Chilly days, good days

7 degrees, 14 degrees ..... Gosh these days are chilly but the sunshine is glorious! Each day little ice crystals for on the Russian Olives...
