September 30

Oren helped me feed the animals this morning.
Vance is on an Alaskan work trip/adventure.
I am teaching full time right now, a long term -

The crisp air and sunshine was just perfect this morning as Oren and I spent some time down at the barn.

I also have 4 photo senior sessions this weekend.

Monday evening

The weekend was good and then so quickly Monday is here.

I can't really find a good book, not much interests me. Which is sort of a new development, just the last 18 months.  Natasha and I often have similar taste in reading so she just passed one onto me. I hope I like it.

It was so fun spending a chunk of time outside today with Bootstraps and the goats.... the temps so comfortable. Those little weed eaters ate all around our pond.

I realized how we can't really manage the shop and our house.  We sort of live in both places. Maybe in the summer we have more time and energy to manage both - we are home more too - and when the days are long and warm the travel back and forth is fairly simple.

Hazel requested dinner at the house, Oren hollered in agreement. We cook at the shop because the space is great and the oven works better. But we can find our way back at the house too.

I am back to writing some letters, finally! A passion of mine but I took a long break.

Cheers to the new week!

September 6th update

Let's see how much I can explain without explaining too much.

Merit moved to California prepared to live with two strangers, also baseball guys. Guy #1 was going to have his own bedroom, double the cost. Merit and Guy #2 would share a room.

Guy #2 has had a series of mishaps, poor choices, or maybe some would say just a lot of fun!

Guy #1 is quiet, reserved, and a respectful roommate.

The college is not what these guys expected. It consists of a floor on a high rise building. The seven baseball players Merit has met, so far, have been bummed to learn this.

Merit loves the beaches down there, the baseball stadiums, the energy, and the vibe.

Guy #1 has made Merit's first ten days there more tolerable.

He is a good guy and they have shared good conversations.  Just today Guy #1 packed all of his stuff and moved.  He was refunded 80 percent of his tuition and lost a fair amount breaking his lease. Merit called me. And I was sad and shocked.

Having adult children is way harder than I thought it would be. Even though Merit is responsible, kind, and fun and the very best part about Merit  is he can usually make the best out of a sticky situation, it is still hard.

I have been praying many times throughout the day and night about Merit's roommate situation. And boy this is not what I expected.

These days there are a few key things that are getting me through; bike rides, the weather - as strange as that sounds - these crisp mornings and warm afternoons are dreamy! The fun of Willem's senior year is also a mood lifter. Hazel and Oren are doing well in school and working hard.

These volleyball girls are a JOY to watch!

Labor Day Weekend

Friday night's home football game was so fun and a great win!

We loved being at "Club Jeff's" this weekend! His pool party was so fun and the weather was perfect. The pool volleyball was very fun to watch. Everybody was eating well there too!  Pam's queso was amazing.

Phillip spent part of yesterday with us and that was another highlight. We watched some Hoarders episodes, visited - had fun catching up!

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

We have had a bumpy start to the school year.

But I think those bumps are going to work themselves out.

Merit is pretty bummed about his schooling situation. It looks nothing like he anticipated but he is going to work through the kinks, work out the kinks.

Willem's first day of his senior year started off hard. But this guy lets things roll off his back.

Hazel likes her classes and her teachers. 8th grade!!

Oren is bummed to not have more friends in his class but he will make new ones. Mrs. C Johnson is positive!

They start their morning off with the song I got sunshine in my pocket how cool is that?

My goal is to blog every day for seven days. I find it to be therapeutic! And I missed not doing it all summer.

Summer lovin'

Summer is a magical time!

We observed horses and riding at fair and I think we are just too nervous around Bootstraps.
Our relationship with horse has many facets.

Memories of Jayleen

Jayleen Tjoelker impacted my life greatly. I spent countless hours in the Tjoelkers home as a girl and teen, including many late nights!
I also worked for Jayleen during my HS years.
She was full of life and personality and she laughed a lot!

Lissa's friendship blessed me in so many ways and her friendship to this day is one of my GREATEST blessings.

When I was in kindergarten, Jayleen invited all of us Ebenezer kinders over to ride ponies in their corral. This was an absolute highlight. Bud and Jay drove a big van with a GOD IS GOOD bumper sticker. That van took me to ball games, K-mart, a sunrise Easter morning service, Sprouse Reitz many times, and the list goes on.

I remember being at Bud and Jay's - so often Jayleen was crocheting. I also remember her making candy trains - boxes of them - to sell at the Ebenezer bazaar. Jayleen was a huge support to Ebenezer as a person and through her donated crafts.

When our mom passed away suddenly, Jayleen reached out in big powerful ways. I was so thankful for her being giving of her time and praying for us all.

When Merit was born, she crocheted him the most adorable baby blue sweater.

As the years went on, Jayleen was so invested in her kids and her grandkids. She was so happy to talk about them and to be with them.

After my Grandpa Ken passed, Bud and Jay were in a small group - through church - with my grandma Al,ma. Grandma loved her time with them.
I drove to the service alone on Friday morning and the time of reflection was so important. The funeral was absolutely beautiful! Lesha leaned in and said "you know if Grandma were still here she would would be here" which I knew....
I enjoyed a quick lunch with my sisters at Fairway Cafe after the service and got back on the road. Again, quiet time being therapeutic.

On Saturday I traveled to Spokane. I was able to talk to Lissa on the phone a good portion of my drive.

This week is so full! Lots of baseball, track, teaching, and my garden starts in my greenhouse are ready to find new homes!!

We had a fun weekend of baseball

My mom's birthday today! She would be 68 - the crazy thing is 68 seems young and she died so long ago-

I am still learning things through her, because of her.

I'm back!

I don't remember having a morning as crisp as this one in a previous August. I woke up and our deck was so cold. I think it got d...
