chicken raising, baseball, summer dayz

I rarely print my pictures anymore and I wish I would. I need to get at least some of them in albums.
Today my head is spinning a bit! Blogging is therapeutic and I suppose a good way to organize my thoughts, my days and share our pictures of course.
This weekend Merit has a tournament in Wenatchee, Willem in Moses Lake. Between the two of them there could be 10 games. Better pack the water bottles, sunscreen, sunflower seeds and kid snacks! I just finished packing all the food and supplies Merit will need for East Wenatchee. Phew!

Our adopted chickens like their new digs.

barefoot, no shirt, playing in gravel and dirt -- summa livin'

One or maybe both of our egg layers that we just adopted are picking on the younger chicks.
Hopefully, not for long! I distract them with herbs, frozen treats, try to let them out for a bit...

When we do let them out we have to stand guard. The kids like to hang out outside with these ladies so it works out.

Can't wait to watch the big boys play BALL!!

Adopted sweeties

Farmer Vance

Willem preparing the coop for our new ladies.

We are blessed.
My friend Nicole and her family are in the process of selling their country home where they raise chickens. They hope to move to town. They were looking for a home for their chickens! We have fenced the coop, covered the coop and have taken all the measures we can to keep these girls safe. When we do let the chickens out, we stand guard. I think we can protect them from the neighbor dogs. Soooo, we adopted 4 sweet chickens! Nicole stopped me at the water park yesterday and said " I heard about your chickens. We want to give you some of ours." wow, I am thankful! Last night we picked them up - me and my farm hand, Willem. Have I mentioned Merit doesn't touch chickens?

This little girl is as sweet as sweet can be. Hazel is very sweet too. ;-)

So, they joined our three last night and I think we will have one big happy coop.
Have I mentioned I love raising chickens?

And some day we will have a barn and baby lambs. Maybe a horse? Maybe a cat? Farm girl dreamin'

Tuesday evening update

Chickens

An old classic car at Zamora park!

Hazel feeding the chickens... I am so sad that our neighbor dog has been attacking our chickens!
They are now cooped, fenced and covered. I love the idea of free range, but with the current neighbor dog situation, this would be really tough. Tonight I let them roam before baseball for a little over an hour. One of us just sat out there with them at all times.

Hazel just said to me "I remember holding that chicken! Those were happy times." :-(

Our two little white leghorns are gone. Rest in peace sweet chickens.
So much care goes into these silly birds. They are so sweet, fun to watch, full of personality. It has been really sad to watch them mourn the loss of their friends.

We are experiencing warm days and baseball each evening. Fun at the water park here and there and today was a home day. I attempted to keep up on messes.
It is fun to have the kids home, playing and enjoying the break.

A happy heart, a thankful spirit

Make a wish

This week I remembered that I love Oren so very much! ;-)
After some grocery store fits, head butting, demanding capri suns and being a stinker - he had more happy days, more garden running days, more smiles, more hugs, so much more SWEETNESS. Oren, I love you naughty and nice. But oh, the nice is so sweet and good for this mama's soul!
Thank you God for this darling little stinker.

I am so thankful for this two year old!! And for his big sister and big brothers!!
Summer break officially starts at noon today!!

These chickens never talk back.

I love this time of year!

Nasturiums
I have memories of my mom putting these in salads.
I recently read that chickens love them too.

Today, with Hazel's help, I weeded the garden.
I made one of my favorite dinner recipes, chicken salsa verde enchiladas and got
to share them with friends!
My little pistol Oren has been in a good mood today! Partly, I believe, because we have been home most of the day.

Breakfast/lunch in bed

Our wild, beautiful daisies are now at the end of their bloom~
They have been so pretty!

Oren is such a little farm boy.

I'm back!

I don't remember having a morning as crisp as this one in a previous August. I woke up and our deck was so cold. I think it got d...
