Life is good and busy and full. Vance and I got to get away to Seattle for an overnighter Tuesday night. Oh I love my husband and really enjoy a glass of wine and dinner out without kids every now and then. I do not like to be away from the kids for long... an overnighter is just about perfect and reconnecting with my husband is pretty great too.

Yesterday was a busy day. Hazel needed me a lot. I felt like I couldn't get organized. I was thinking of how nice Vance and my get away was. One of my favorite things to do is take a LONG, hot bath or a long shower when we get away... I have time to deep condition my hair, I have time to lounge in a robe. At home, my baths or showers are short and when I do take a bath Hazel usually jumps in with me. Not a lot of time lounging in a robe for me here at home. :)
The boys brought their report cards home Monday. We are so happy and thankful that they are doing so well and working so hard. We are proud of their accomplishments! I was beaming while reading those report cards.

These kids are very fun. I am entertained on a regular basis. :) I hadn't blogged for a while and just thought I would share the goings on in the Jansen family.

I am just now blogging a few pictures from last weekend. The Wemp boys were here. There was lots of nerf gun play and imaginative fun. We also went to the arcade on Saturday afternoon. I got a few pics on my iphone.

Just before nap time... cozied up in mama's arms with the binkie.

Hazel is fighting naps less lately. The cold crisp air and hiking around a bit

in her boots makes for one tired girl.

My brother Matt went on a motorcylce trip to Mexico with Vance's dad and

several others. He also enjoyed some time in Coronado with Natasha's family.

On the way down and on the way back we got some time with him.

Willem was thrilled to have Matt around to build his train set!

Matt picked Merit up from basketball practice Monday night, which Merit considered

a real treat.

I want to get in my craftroom and make a couple cards sometime soon.

I have the card making bug.

The snow is so pretty, but not so fun to drive in. I know my husband being in the trucking business has lots of extra work "stuff" this time of year. I appreciate him coming home smiling even when he is exhausted. Makes it hard for all of those trying to keep things running smoothly when the weather isn't cooperating. It would be a hard time of year to be a truck driver with icy roads, cold temps and mountain pass closures. A shout out to Mike for all of his hard work and dedication!! Deb, I hope you are reading my blog today, :)

I got to visit with some wonderful girlfriends this morning.

That always feels refreshing.

Case, Raising Kids, Shopping for Bargains, Winter Walks

I have thought of my sweet nephew Case a lot this week. January 12th was the date he left this earth to go to heaven. I hurt for my sister and her family. God's plans and purposes sometime boggle my mind, especially lately. But I do choose to trust in him. Natasha shares deeply and beautifully from her heart what she is feeling on her blog. Please pray for those who have lost loved ones. There is an emptiness and ache that only prayer can lighten.

The boys are having fun in school and learning lots, but they are both excited to have tomorrow off. Hazel is entertaining us to no end. I am so thankful for her fun personality. She says some of the cutest things and does some funny things. She is curious, not the best sleeper and keeps me on my toes... this girl is a lot of work and a lot of fun.

Two nights ago Hazel was up from about 12:30 till 3:30, not crying, not upset, just sleepless. When 7 a.m. rolled around I was so tired! I was not ready to face the day. Thankfully, Merit and Willem were incredibly responsible! I made Vance breakfast, he left for work, I got cereal set out for the boys, set their homework out and went back to bed. They handled the rest. Merit got all ready, helped Will get ready... I was so proud of them. Hazel and I got about another hour of sleep. These boys are very responsible and I am so thankful for that.

Friday I needed to get a tire worked on so while our car was in the shop, Hazel and I walked to the Senior Center for some thrift store fun. It was 30 degrees and crisp. I was soaking in that crisp, cool air. I don't know why I don't do winter walks more often, I always feel so much better after I do.

So, Hazel and I got a bag of books for $1. Lots of chapter books for Merit and a few picture books. I also found this crate...

I am actually sort of losing interest in my blog, but I feel like I have lots of fun pictures to share.

And I really don't want to lose interest in it. It is fun to document our happenings here and I know

I enjoy other peoples blogs, so often I am inspired by them.

Since I was a baby we have been going to my Grandma Alma's

We are missing Rudy a lot.

Troubles, Joys

We said good-bye to our beloved dog Rudy yesterday. What a good dog she was and a true friend. Vance and I got her when we were engaged, nearly 14 years ago. She was a really loyal, really good dog. She was the perfect dog for our family. She watched us bring each of our babies home from the hospital. The biggest adjustment was Merit. Rudy was our baby before Merit. She watched our babies with curiousity and took measures to protect them. A few times the kids were outside and I was inside when the UPS or Fed Ex guy came with a package and Rudy would go nuts. Lots of barking and warnings so that I knew a "stranger" was approaching the walk with the kids outside. She loved going for walks and hikes and was good company on explorations. She lived in four different houses with us, she went on trips with us, she especially enjoyed Alaska. Her first trip to Alaska was with Vance and me on our honeymoon! She road in the back of the car on many Lynden trips. Breathing her hot breath and sometimes drooling on the kids and their head rests. :) Man, it is a bummer she isn't here. A dog is such a good companion and seems to ease ones troubles.

I have been feeling sick and not sleeping good at all, so that has been hard too. But I think I am on the mend. I really need to be.

I loved it that Hazel picked up baby Jesus so many times out of the Nativity scene and with wonder would say "Baby Je". Each time she did that I was reminded of the true reason for the season. She would look over at me with her sweet smile as she cradled baby Jesus. A reason to celebrate even during the tough moments. I found JOY in this.

I found joy and thanksgiving in how much work my dad put into Christmas Eve at his house, how much care Adie and Stan put into Christmas day at their house and how much love my Grandma Alma put into Christmas night at her house. Hosting something like that is a lot of work and it was so nice to be a part of three wonderful Christmas parties. Also, Lesha opened her home up to us a couple of times and was so laid back about this. I really loved that. Being with family is really good.

Yesterday Willem and I hit the Senior Center Thrift Store.

Everything in the store was 50 percent off!

I bought lots of fabric.

I plan to wrap Christmas gifts in some of it and I want to pass

some of it on to my sweet friend Maria. I have a feeling she can sew something with it or

maybe she too would like to use it for wrapping paper. I bought LOTS of fabric, two childrens books

and some votive holders all for $2.50 - can't beat that.

On Sunday the boys and I decorated a gingerbread house!

I love this tradition.

Yesterday Merit had a Christmas Around the World presentation in

his classroom. It was wonderful and fun! Third graders are something else.

I really love this age.

Last night, I got some quality visiting time with a few dear friends -- felt great!

I have had some time for card making!!

I have had lots of time to snuggle my sweet little blue eyed girl.

We officially begin Christmas break at noon today.

TIME

TIME. Time is precious, what I do with my time is really important. Soaking up these kids, loving them, building them up, teaching them about the TRUE meaning of Christmas and expressing to God my THANKS for these children is very important.
Today during Hazel's nap I cleaned the bathroom. I didn't really feel like cleaning the bathroom, I never do. That is why it needed to be cleaned in such a bad way.Willem entertained me through the process, something
he is very good at. He likes to play "honey."
He pointed out that Vance and I call eachother honey a lot. So, when he wants to be a grown man with a wife and kids, he calls it playing honey.
He is my husband who is also a spy agent. :) My job is to be really impressed with all he accomplishes. Today his friends came over (imaginary) and we talked over his spy work with them. Again, I am so thankful for half day kindergarten. Willem makes sure my life is never dull or boring!
Today, after cleaning the bathroom I was overwhelmed with what to do next... finish addressing Christmas cards, tackle the laundry, make gingerbread cookies with the kids, help Willem with his homework, run on the treadmill, work on my continuing cert.teaching stuff... this time of year there is a lot of juggling. But I really am grateful I have so many wonderful things and people to juggle. Even if it feels overwhelming at times.
My mind has been on my nephew Case these past few days. His mama (my sister Natasha) is so good about continuing to find JOY in her JOURNEY, even though losing a child must be so life changing, very tragic... I am so proud of her and Reese for carrying on, being good parents, finding joy, working together... Case had really been on my heart and then I headed over to her blog today and saw that she has been thinking a lot of him over this Christmas season and beautifully shared her love and thoughts.
She shared this sweet picture on her blog. And now I want to share it.

His time here on earth was short, 5 1/2 months

But his life touched a lot of people during that TIME.

Natasha and Reese were so wonderful to come up to Washington for

both Thanksgiving and Christmas with Case! We got to share those

holidays with that happy, sweet baby.

Natasha knows how precious TIME is.

She is carrying on and being intentional about spending quality time with her loved ones!

We got back to the hotel and ended the evening with a wonderful bubble bath!

Christmas Time

Last weekend we headed to Couer d'Alene, quite possibly my favorite overnight get away destination. It was really fun! It is pretty magical there during the Christmas season. Willem was out of his head with excitement. In fact the afternoon we arrived at the hotel I suggested to Willem and Merit that I could take them down to the Starbucks in the lobby and treat them to a hot cocoa. They were excited! We left the hotel room and these boys ran FULL SPEED to the elevator fighting over who would push the buttons. My kids and elevators... they really get jazzed up over them. Anyway, we got our hot cocoas with whip cream and headed back up to the room. Willem was hopping and leaping everywhere and accidentally swatted Merit's hot cocoa, his FULL hot cocoa, right out of his hands all over the elevator floor! I ran to the room grabbed a towel and cleaned up the mess. Willem felt bad, but honestly that child could hardly control himself. He said "BEST day EVER" about 8 times that day.

We went out for a delicious meal that night. Beverly's on the fifth floor is a pretty classy restaurant. The food was fantastic!

The "journey to the North Pole" boat ride was a highlight of the weekend.

oh the anticipation!

This time of year is busy and full and although Santa is so fun and a boat ride

to the North Pole a treat, but remembering the true REASON for the SEASON is so

important.

Sharing the awesome joy of Jesus' birthday is wonderful.

I love watching Hazel carefully pick up baby Jesus in the manger.

Enjoying Life

Life is busy and good. I have been decorating the house for Christmas with LOTS of help from Willem! He covered his eyes today and said "I just LOVE Christmas!!! It brings me tears of JOY!" It sure is fun to have his excitement.
These crisp, wintry days are really nice and if it isn't too cold, I try to get Hazel outside in the morning. When she is irritable or a bit cranky it seems like it makes such a difference to just get her outside for a bit. Today we went for a walk/stroller ride and this afternoon she took a LONG nap. She is in a good mood a lot of the time, but last week we had a morning where she cried on and off for a couple of hours and really wanted to be in my arms. It is hard to get things done around the house when she is in these moods. But I do treasure the time when she cuddles up on my lap and wants to be snuggled or read to. Kids grow up too fast!
I am way behind on my photography blog, I have photographed several families over the past couple of weeks and haven't posted them. My photography is something I really enjoy and I hope I can just continue to learn and grow.
Every now and then Hazel and I pop in on Merit's classroom. Sometimes I bring him Subway or McDonalds when I am at the school to pick up Willem or other times I just have a little something to drop off... Merit's face the other day when I stopped in told me that my drop ins have been a bit too frequent. I imagined there HAVE to be other moms who pop in on a regular basis. And besides, I usually try to find good times like RIGHT before lunch or right at the end of the day. So I asked him last night "Do other kids' moms pop in?" He said, "No one stops by as often as you and Hazel do." I was surprised! And decided then that my pop ins need to be less frequent. I try to be very respectful and try not to interrupt instruction... oh listen to me I could make a list of reasons WHY it is okay! :) I just need to give this growing, handsome third grader a little space.
I LOVE it that Willem just goes to school half days! One of my favorite times of the day is picking him up from kindergarten. His smile is so bright and I love to hear about his day.

I love going for walks on cold crisp days.

The scenery is beautiful.

Our Thanksgiving was really nice too.
Vic welcomed us all out to his place. The food was delicious and the company was great.

I am so thankful for a warm, cozy home!!

Our house feels like home, it is full of my favorite people and lots

of fun and love.

It is sure feeling like winter!

We have had a light layer of snow a couple of different days.

Vance and Merit watch LOTS of football! It is something

they really enjoy doing together. We also play quite a bit of football out in our yard. I am thankful these boys have so much fun together. I am also thankful

that they include Hazel in their fun, even FOOTBALL!

Card making is so fun.

I just wish I knew what I was doing for our famiy Christmas picture/card.

I have all of these little projects I want to complete. Christmas

comes quickly! So I need to get started now.

When I was out spray painting these branches the other day I was totally thinking of my mom. I love the little DIY projects she tackled. We would talk about some of the fun shows on DIY too.

I have really been hit with a wave of missing my mom.

So many things remind me of her.

And sometimes these boys remind me so much of my brothers, Matt and Phil! There are times I think we should have named them

Matthew and Phillip because they are mistakenly called their names fairly often! :)

Lately, it has been fun to be on the hunt for Christmas goodies at the thrift stores.

I keep thinking of my mom while I am there and how she

could appreciate a great bargain. Hazel loves the thrift stores too. She enjoys looking for books there. Especially books about puppies and babies.

I photographed a mother/daughter a few weeks back. The daughter was about my age so just their relationship, maybe because of their ages, made me think of my mom. They asked me to photograph

them together with their head in a picture frame. It was so cute and they seemed to really appreciate

eachother. I almost cried while I snapped the picture.

If you have your mom, hold her close.

I saw a cool idea in a Do It Yourself magazine.

Spray paint bare branches white.

Then buy some little birds to clip or glue on. I got mine

2 for $1 at the Dollar Store.

I'll post a picture of the completed project.

The picture in the magazine showed the branches and birds hanging from the

ceiling, but I think I am going to put mine in a heavy duty vase or pot.

I ordered these stamp sets from my sister Natasha and

am crazy about them. She sells Close To My Heart, a very fun line

of card making, scrapbooking stuff.

Vance's hunting seems to give me more time for card making! :)

Our weekend was fun. Watching Merit play basketball is exciting! I remember loving basketball as a kid and although I wasn't too into sports, I did enjoy basketball. Merit's team is so fun to watch and they are getting better and better. I love meeting the parents and Willem and Hazel make new friends.

I had a couple of photo shoots Saturday afternoon, church Sunday and then Vance's brother John and family came over. I love these cooler days. We had a big fire going Sunday. John and Katie pulled out a tree and a hedge so we burned that. I am wanting to sneak down to our cabin again for a little card making, but life is really full right now and getting that kind of time is a bit tricky.

Hazel is a poser. She is mostly sweet with a little bit of sass.

Last week I found this well used old orange dresser at Goodwill.

I liked the orange, but it was pretty scratched up. I decided to sand it and paint it blue.

What a fun makeover. The dresser was $5.99. I bought a couple of cans of spray paint and it looks pretty close to new! It stores books that our large bookcase

can't hold because it is full. And I was excited to use the dresser to showcase an apple picture that I took this fall.

A favorite thing of mine is enlarging photos and putting them on foam core board.

My sisters and I love thrifting together.

I have a few friends who enjoy looking for a second hand bargain too!

Last time Phil was in town he and Will joined me for some thrift store fun!

It is pretty cool when my younger bro likes thrifting too. And Willem is always

excited to hunt for a treasure.

I have been taking lots of pictures lately!

I have had some wonderful fall photo shoots. The weather

has been fantastic and the leaves and fall colors are so nice.

I have lots of my favorite shots on my photography blog.

Being able to photograph and visit with families is a treat. Some of them I know, some of them

I have never met. This hobby/business has been a great learning experience and a lot of fun.

Rudy is such a good old dog. She is thirteen. We have been spending lots of time outside lately and have also been having some fun in our cabin, Rudy is always right there with us. It has been good to see the relationship she and Hazel have formed too.

Fall --- oh how I love this time of year!

Tea and black bottom cupcakes, yum!

My black bottom cupcake recipe is really simple. I buy the cake mix that make 12 cup cakes.

If you buy a small cake mix like that, each cupcake has lots of the yummy cream

cheese filling!! Prepare cake mix according to instructions on box. Poor batter

into 12 muffin cups. Or, I like to do two mini loaf pans and 6 cupcakes.

For the filling: 1 oz block of cream cheese softened, 1 egg and 1/4 cup sugar oh and chocolate chips! 1/2 cup - 1 cup. Bake according to instructions on cake mix. These are wonderful.

This has been a really good week. The boys are loving school. Willem's brain is a sponge! Oh I can't believe all he is learning. It is so wonderful!!

Merit's problem solving is impressive. It is really fun to see what they have learned. We have, once again, been blessed with FABULOUS teachers! Both of these boys have the most terrific, talented teachers who LOVE their jobs! I am so thankful for these dedicated teachers.

On Tuesday I had tea and goodies with a friend here and we went on a fall walk... oh how good for the soul!

Then yesterday, I hosted a little card making evening in our cozy cabin. We especially enjoy our cabin this time of year. It is a warm, cozy retreat. I wish I would have gotten some pictures down there!

Oh well, I hope to do it again in November.

I have five photo shoots this weekend! Whew! It will be busy, but fun.

This is the BEST time of year to take pictures!

The kids are really excited for Halloween (Willem especially).

Birthday Month

October is probably my favorite month of the year. I LOVE Autumn, I love soccer, I love the cozy feeling of this time of year and celebrating Merit and Hazel's birthdays this month is pretty fun (and busy!) too. Willem has a January birthday which is great too! Something to look forward to in that month after Christmas.

On Merit's birthday Merit had a soccer game and on Hazel's birthday Merit had a soccer game!! It is a good thing all the kids love going, because soccer has been our regular activity. :)

After the soccer game on Merit's birthday, we went out fo Mexican food with Grandpa Vic and Gramma Kris. Merit was so excited to wear a sombrero and have a bunch of people sing Happy Birthday to him!!

The day before Hazel's Bday, I bought some cupcakes.

Once the boys had left for school on Thursday Hazel enjoyed a cupcake. :)

It is a good thing, because ON her birthday there was no cake!

Come to think of it, she still needs to blow out two candles! :)

When Hazel woke up on her birthday, we gave her

a Little People Noah's Ark set. She loves it!

Determination

The Ninjas, the soccer team that Merit is on, has improved, a lot. From what I see, determination has quite a bit to do with it. I see determination in the coach and in his players. I also see positive attitudes and quite a lot of heart.

A little over a week ago, the Ninjas played in a Friday night and Saturday tournament. When we got the schedule for the tournament, we noticed that there would be two play off games. Two teams would play for 1st and 2nd and two other teams for 3rd and 4th. I sadly admit that I almost scheduled a photography session for the same time that the play off games were to take place. Merit's team, before the tournament, wasn't a winning team.

I told a very eager, determined Merit about how the tournament was scheduled to go down. He said "So we might be playing in a play off game?!" We discussed how it was unlikely, but not impossible. Meanwhile, his coach coached those boys in such an excellent, determined, good sportsmanship kind way and Merit seemed to think he would be playing in a play off game. He kept talking about it.

Friday nights game was awesome. Both teams played so well. Our Ninjas ended up winning so it was on to Saturday mornings game. We lost the Saturday morning game, but won a game that afternoon. Points were given for goals and wins. The determined Ninjas ended up playing for first and second. I was embarrassed that I didn't think they could do it. I was thankful that I hadn't scheduled a photo session for that time :) and I was so excited to watch these boys play for 1st or 2nd. They played so well. They played with good attitudes and determination and they are encouraged to play like that. They are respectful for the most part. I have learned quite a lot from them.

The Ninjas took second. And Merit cried softly as they walked off the field. This kid puts so much heart into every game and I LOVE to watch him play. Merit's coach "gets him" for this I am so grateful.

I have truly become a soccer mom. Running to practices and games reminds me so much of my mom running to my brothers practices and games! It is a life I really love and I am also so thankful that Willem and Hazel enjoy all the running around! On practice nights, the bike and stroller often comes with us to the field and we get to enjoy fresh air and get some exerise! Last night our walk/bike ride was beautiful! The leaves are changing at Cascade Park. There were sprinkled leaves all along the trail. On game days, Vance and I enjoy watching the Ninjas while Will and Hazel Jane socialize! They are always meeting new friends.

Today I had the fun opportunity to volunteer in Willem's classroom. I loved it!

He is determined to be a good student, to be kind, to obey...

I pray that I will continue to see determination in all of our children.

That they will be determined to reach for their goals,

to follow Jesus, to do their best and to work hard.

Today I am so incredibly thankful that my kids love eachother like they do.

From the day the boys met Hazel, they adored her. They dote on her, are really

sweet to her, they are very proud of her when she learns new things and they think

she is very funny. Watching this has

been more fun than I ever could have imagined.

Hazel now sometimes likes to play with some of the boys things she shouldn't. She also

loves to pretend to do homework so when the boys do theirs, I give

her a little something to work on. They are patient as towers are knocked over, hot

wheels cars are removed from the perfect line up or homework is written on.

When Willem gets hurt, Hazel runs to him to pat his head, kiss him or hug him.

It has been really fun to watch.

were doing their share of fighting. They have much less time to fight now! School,

homework, soccer, social events etc keep them busy and they seem to get along

better. :)

With the money made, the kids got new books from the Scholastic Book Fair and the boys

each get bean bag chairs for their rooms. They are excited. :)

I have lost a lot of blogging enthusiasm lately.

I hope it comes back.

I have had an attitude all day today. There was a shooting this morning just a little ways

down the road from us. Two people are hospitalized, condition unknown. The "shooter guy" (Willem's name for bad guys) is on the loose. I am thankful we are all safe. The whole thing is probably drug related. Our road is closed because of the investigation. I find myself so disgusted about these types of things.

Also, I am reminded to pray for the safety of our family.

My next post will be a little more upbeat I hope!

Maybe something light hearted like a Pear Butter recipe or pictures of handmade cards. ;)

I laugh sometimes because my blog is usually a therapeutic outlet, but sometimes it

contains all the "fluff " in my life when there are also "heavier" things to write about.

Oh well, life would be too serious without the "fluff"!

Racing Around

ohhhhhh I am usually pretty good about down time, quiet time, taking time to reflect...

but this week I have been RACING around! We are getting into the homework routine. These boys are good about it but ugh, I don't like having to push them as hard as I do. I am collecting good books - books for all three kids to enjoy. Merit is involved in a LEAP INTO BOOKS contest and is reading like crazy. I love this.

We are having our house painted this week.

A fresh coat of paint will be a nice make-over.

Our house is so lived in and comfortable. I am excited for this new color and fresh coat.

Deciding on the color for the house, trim and front door was difficult.

But I think I have made the right decision. ? Vance left it up to me.

Tomorrow and Saturday I am part of a garage sale with a group of great women. I have been

pricing stuff for three days. ugh Today Hazel and I picked up tables and loaded totes and more totes of stuff! WHY have I accumulated SO MUCH stuff?!

My good friend Kelly is watching Hazel tomorrow morning while

I work at the yard sale (thank you Kelly!) Hopefully we get

lots of customers before I have to go get Willem from kindergarten.

Saturday we will sell, sell, sell again and Merit has a soccer game.

Though this week has been busy, I have sure enjoyed some good visits with

dear friends. Friendships are such a blessing! Whether near or far.

My Aunt Jill and Uncle Randy came to visit yesterday. They had been camping in Ellensburg and were just sort of around these parts on an adventure. It was so fun to have them here. I liked having them see what the kids are up to, where we live and to have an opportunity to re-connect. I didn't get a picture of them with the kids, but should have! That would have been something to post HERE.

Merit's first soccer practice was last night and his first game is tonight! ML Ninjas! We are looking forward to a fun soccer season.

Merit got 100% on his pre-test so you know what this means? No spelling test today and no spelling pre tests with me at home last night or this morning. Both boys got their homework done with no complaining this week (oh let's hope it lasts)! I love their teachers and am thankful they like school!

The last time Vance and I went on a date was in May! So, I am working at tracking down a sitter and looking forward to an evening out with my husband. Something to dream about a little.

Hazel and I cleaned the cabin this week. The way the morning sun shines down there is so beautiful this time of year. These crisp mornings that move into HOT days are great.

I am still trying to make cards if I get a spare hour here or there. I just ordered more card making supplies from my sis Natasha and can hardly wait to dig into the new stamp sets and cardstocks. These cards
are fun and sassy!

Yesterday the boys and I hit the waterpark and enjoyed the lazy

river ride most, the weather has been gorgeous! Vance and Hazel relaxed at home.

Friday.

Hazel and I will have lots more time for girl stuff now that the boys are in school. Her smiles brighten my days. Most of today, Saturday, Hazel and I hung out with our neighbor Wyatt and Merit and Willem. She can sure play boy stuff and loves the mud, carrying around a football and golf cart rides when those boys are around! But she can be a girly girl too. Tonight she said a couple of times after Wyatt had gone home "Wy ba bye?" That is what she calls Wyatt, "Wy" -----this girl is a JOY and I love her smiles, sass and sweetness.

The boys are off to a great start at school!

Willem walked into his kindergarten classroom on that first day with a confidence that was such a

blessing to us.

Merit is adjusting so well too! His teacher is fantastic, he has fun stories about soccer at recess and

is enjoying getting to know the kids in his class. They had a test Friday, he said it was so much work but so good. I love hearing about their days!

The front yard was transformed into a Wipe Out course a few days this past week. Watching these boys race through the course was hilarious. They asked me to be the announcer. Getting creative and goofy is just up my alley. They placed two slip and slides in a row, had obstacles, jumped over an exercise ball and dumped buckets of water on eachother. An excellent way to cool off on a hot summer day.
I haven't uploaded any pictures yet, but will soon.
Riding motorcycles has been another fun summer activity.I like living out in the country where these boys have room to ride.

These two will start school Wednesday. Merit will be a third grader and Willem a kindergartener! I am not

sure I am ready for this. I love having these kids home. God has helped me embrace every aspect of being a stay at home mom. It feels so good.

Life is busy and never dull. There are days that are challenging and many that are rewarding.

Even though having these kids home is wonderful, I am excited for Merit and Willem to start this school year. I have a feeling they are going to have a great year. I know there is lots to learn and there are friends to be made. :)

At the beginning of each school year, I miss being in the classroom just a bit. But the great thing is, I can be a part of education through my children. Also, it is time for me to take a couple more classes so that I can keep my teaching certificate current. I plan to sign up for one or two online courses in September. It would be beneficial to study something that can help me with the current stage my kids are at.

ohhhhhh, we went to Idaho for the weekend.

The rides were great. The waterpark had a lot of cool stuff but the lines were LONG!

Now two more days of summer break. Lazy mornings and laughter... I need to soak it up.

Last week the kids and I made a trip to Lynden. These three were excellent travelers and we had a busy, fun filled time there.
Connecting with Lissa and her family, Kristen and her girls and getting time with cousins, aunts, uncles and grandparents was really nice. We saw so many people and wish we could have seen more. It was great.
The Lynden Fair is fabulous! Clean, beautiful, great entertainment. The kids and I had a great day spending all day Thursday up in Lynden at the the fair. That night Matt, Lesha, Kristen and I enjoyed Tanya Tucker! What a fun evening with lots of giggling!!

Our travels, once again, brought us to one of our favorite places on earth. The

cabin outside of Ketchikan is peaceful, beautiful and seems to re-charge our batteries.

The kids LOVED it!! We spent three days there, our family of five. Then

Natasha, Reese and Lane joined us for the last four days. I loved our time with them!

The boys SO enjoy Lane and I got time with my sister Tasha!!

I didn't know if I would ever meet someone who enjoys the cabin as much as Vance.

fun, full summer days

These summer days are full and FUN! We have been enjoying the beautiful weather and just time spent together.
I love the break from school! I love lazy mornings. I do not miss packing school lunches or making sure homework is done. The kids are having a lot of fun and are inventing new games, pretending, enjoying the sprinklers, kiddie pool and the water park, enjoying time with Wyatt our next door neighbor...
Hazel is learning new things every day. This stage is BUSY and mostly fun! I do however wish she would sleep through the night consistently. :)
I will be taking a break from blogging for about ten days. We have some fun excursions planned and I will be back with lots of pictures.

Warm summer days, garden fun and thrift store goodies

This summer has been full of warm, sunny but not HOT days. Lots of days in the yard, fun at the parks with friends, boating... we are making lots of memories.
Last week Vance was in Alaska all week fishing. He had a great week, business and fishing and enjoyed the group he was a part of.
Kris, Sandy and I had a garage sale Friday and Saturday - it was a hit! We sold lots of stuff. Good company too! Merit and Willem helped out a lot.
My brother Phil came to visit last weekend. It was great to have him here. Youngest brothers like Phil may be the reason why I sometimes think I could have five kids, but then when I have sleepless nights, look at my laundry pile or grocery bill I think we could be done with three. :)
Hazel's added about five words to her vocabulary over the past two weeks. This expressive, "knows what she wants" girl hasn't been a big talker, but she is getting there! When she walks around she has this confidence about her that I don't think I found till I was 30. Yes, she is a handful at times, but I love her personality!
The boys adore Hazel. Merit says on a regular basis "She is sooo cute!!" Willem giggles with her often and speaks to her in a very gentle tone.
Today we will meet some friends at the park and tonight I will enjoy appetizers at Michaels on the Lake with some ladies I love as we celebrate with Maria who has new baby Emily!
Our garden!!! Oh my goodness, I am having so much fun eating from our garden!
Zucchini brownies, fried zucchini and zucchini bread have been some favorites. Our carrots have good flavor and don't seem as bitter as in years past.

One day a couple of years ago, my sweet friend

Marie was watching my boys. She made them waffles, strawberries and

whipcream. They were thrilled by this yummy treat!! It is now

a favorite this time of year at our house!

Today was a GREAT day! We had a really fun lunch date with my friend

Katie and her three kids! Katie recharges my battery and we never

run out of things to talk about. The children had a BALL!!

Later in the day, we ran around the yard, the kids roasted marshmallows with Wyatt and Hazel

and I ate a bunch of peas from our garden!

My Etsy shop is something I would like to promote over the next few months. Something I am selling now is my photography. My prices are really reasonable and I have some colorful, sharp pictures that may appeal to some. Also, I am having some of my photographs printed at a professional lab and then I place them on cardstock and am excited about having my favorite photographs on cards.

Me and my niece Estelle in Crescent Bar.

Oh she is a chubby, cute little thing!!

It is odd to me to think this sweet little niece of mine has outlived her

older brother. It reminds me daily to never take life forgranted and

to love, treasure and soak up our loved ones.

I was so fortunate to get time with all my bros and sisters in June.

I am proud of Natasha carrying on the way she does without her little guy, Case.

She is such a good mom to Lane and Estelle and is a good wife, even though she has a big void in her life.

She has said that in many ways this second year

without him has been harder than the first.

I suppose we expect the first year to be very difficult after losing someone we love so much and also we are surrounded with

support that first year... but then everyone gets back to their lives and there is just

less checking in, fewer phone calls, cards, reaching out.

Please remember to pray for their family.

Our fourth was so good. We hung out in the yard ALL day! The kids

had a blast on the slip and slide and in the kiddie pool. Vance and I visited, I read my book,

we did a little gardening. And in the evening we enjoyed lots and lots of fireworks!

Oh my gosh you little bathing beauty!

I love a good mystery/suspense novel!

And whenever I read Mary Higgins Clark, I think of

my Aunt Janis. :) She told us the best spooky stories!

These days of hanging out in the sunshine in our yard are sooo sweet!

VBS was a hit!

Merit, in the center, certainly enjoyed it!!

What a great week. Many volunteers and tons of energetic kids

made for an exciting, fun week of learning about Jesus at Sonsurf Beach Camp!

We have had a great week... Fun in the sun, VBS, the aquatic center, gardening, playing at our little playground. Summer is being enjoyed by all.
I got the greatest package in the mail this week. Dutch Licorice (a favorite of mine!) licorice pastels, a cute new top, pampering goodies, a necklace, gum balls for the kids, it is so fun to feel loved.
Vance has a three day weekend! We are hoping to take the boat out. We enjoyed just a few fireworks already last night. The kids were so funny - they can't wait to do more.

We hosted a "creepy crawly hunt" here about two weeks ago.

It was fun to hunt for bugs with our friends!!

These pics were taken after Delia's dad's funeral on Saturday.

I posted earlier about our friend Casey who passed away flying a crop duster.

Lisa asked that I take a few pictures the day of his service.

It brings me to tears to reflect on how I saw Delia that day.

For Delia, it was a reunion with great friends, among many other things.

Delia knows her dad is in heaven, but I am sure his absence isn't completely understood

or grasped. She was a sweet inspiration. Heaven is for real and being reunited

with friends is so sweet. Many of these friends she hasn't seen since their

family moved to South Dakota one year ago.

This family is on my heart and mind.

I will keep praying for peace for them.

Today Vance and I attended our friend Casey Garcia's funeral.

Casey was a kind guy with a great personality. He had tons of

friends and was a joy to be around! He will be missed by many. I have a few

pictures from today to share. I will wait and do that in a few days.

Life on this earth is so short. Knowing Jesus and having faith is so important.

We can only imagine the glories and wonder of our lives in heaven after this earth.

There was a lot of hope in the message today at Casey's service.

Casey loved the Lord and had faith.

Crescent Bar

We had a really nice time at Crescent Bar with my family! It is so beautiful there and we had great weather. Cousin Fun!! Lots of Laughs! An ugly mug contest, relaxing by the pool, BBQing... it was so nice.

We rented a few condos. Having the kids run back and forth between condos to play hide and go seek was fun! The boys played lots of baseball. They have a kiddie pool there that is only one foot deep, perfect for Hazel and Estelle and Brielle liked it a lot too.

Summer break is officially here.

I am anxious to soak up time with these three kids! And Vance

whenever he can break away from work. Vance is going to get some time off this next week which will be really nice. Merit had a fabulous

second grade year. His teacher was so fantastic. Willem also had

a wonderful year at Happy Hearts pre-school with nurturing teachers and

dear friends. They both learned so much. These kids grow up so quickly. I am soaking up every moment with my family.

My heart is saddened today by the loss of a good friend. Our friend Casey

was a pilot in South Dakota. Their family moved there from Moses Lake just

over a year ago. He died yesterday in a plane crash.

My heart aches today for the Garcia family.

My dear friend Lisa and their children are on my heart.

What a tragic, sad time for them.

Please pray.

It gives us hope to know that the JOYS of Heaven will last forever.

My day started at 2:30 a.m. I heard a faint "mom" coming from Willem's room. I leaped out of bed. Since having kids, I am such a light sleeper. I am SUCH a light sleeper I think it is probably unhealthy. Anyway, I got there and the poor guy was throwing up. It ran down his sheets, mattress and box spring... okay, I will spare you any more details. I was just really glad I had some heavy duty cleaners on hand and I am thankful my washing machine has a sanitize cycle. He and I were up for 45 minutes, he took a bath, I did some cleaning. Then he slept like a baby the rest of the night and felt great today. He went swimming a bunch in the lake yesterday. I don't know if it was a bug, if he swallowed too much lake water, if he ate too much junk food... I am just glad it was short lived. I went back to bed about 4 a.m. and my mind was going, going. When I can't get to sleep during the night, I take that time to pray. My prayer list has been long so maybe that extra time awake was meant to be. But starting my day that early, meant me fighting for the energy to carry on today.
Also, this morning Hazel was up bright and early! For about the past 6 weeks she has been sleeping great at night -- yay!! But is often up at 5:30 or 6. Convincing her it isn't time to be up yet isn't easy, but often she falls back asleep till almost 7. Then, she is raring to go. This girl is busy!
This afternoon I joined Merit's second grade class on a bowling field trip. (Willem and Hazel enjoyed some time with Fischer and Gramma Kris) All the second grade classes went to the bowling alley for a fun afternoon of chatting and bowling with their classmates and teachers. I loved it! Mrs. Hammond, his teacher, has such a heart for kids and is sooo sweet!! The kids in his class are cute and funny! It has been a GREAT year!
Then I got groceries, ran errands, got home watered my flowers, pulled weeds (how do weeds grow SO fast?)... all the while thinking of how a nap would be nice! I missed an appointment this afternoon, totally spaced it! Vance made dinner - whew! I played baseball with Merit, one of his favorite things to do! So now, I am about ready to crawl into bed... finally. I am so thankful for these three children, so thankful Willem is feeling great and so thankful that most of my days do not start at 2:30 a.m. goodnight all...

Weekend Fun!

Yesterday, Vance, Willem, John (Vance's bro) and Fischer our nephew

went jeepin' at the sand dunes.

Vance said Will and Fischer had a ball. There was lots of

laughter and fun!

Merit, Hazel and I hung out at home.

Hazel got a L-O-N-G nap. She so needs her naps and so does

her mama! I can get a lot done while she sleeps or get

quality time with the boys.

Yesterday Merit and I had fun playing outside and playing Monopoly together.

I try to plan my days so Hazel never misses that sweet afternoon nap.

And then she is raring to go when she wakes up. She loves golf cart rides!

Watching this little boy (our sweet Willem) catch tadpoles in this fresh water

puddle/stream in front of our home is a blast. I LOVE watching my boys catch tadpoles!

We are moving them to a large container with some of their natural habitat and we can't wait

to watch them GROW!

My dad visits and boating fun

Yesterday morning my dad drove over here and spent the day with us.

The weather was gorgeous. We sat outside and visited all day.

Then we enjoyed dinner out last night.

Today Vance, the kids and I took the boat out. It was fun

boating weather and the boys enjoyed tubing!

We got exciting news last night that my dear friend Lissa had her fourth

baby girl!! Lyla Travis!

Earlier in the week my friend Maria had her baby: Emily Johanna!

These baby girls are such sweet blessings.

It was great to see my dad.

My dad brought a trailer over for Vance this weekend. He and

Phil have been working on it for a while. After getting new decking on it and doing a

a bunch of other work to it it was ready for the road trip.
